More information on Nero 5.5 development and Nero 6 upgrade policy
Nero 6 is currently probably the most awaited CD/DVD mastering software and the company should release the software on July 18th. However some users have been asking us if Nero 5.5 will still be developed. Also many users have received a Nero Burning ROM 5.5x version with their CD/DVD recorder and would like to be entitled to an upgrade of Nero 6.
Question is, will they have to pay for an update, and will Nero 5.5 users find new updates for their software? "We will have a last update some days after the release of Nero 6, but after that we stop working on Nero 5.5", explains Jenny Menhart from Ahead; "Everybody has to buy Nero 6 (either the upgrade or the full version), expect the people who bought Nero 5.5 (the retail version) after the 1st of May 2003". In case you have more questions regarding the licensing policy of Nero 6 you can visit a a special page on the website of Ahead. _____________________ Source: FlexBeta |

There is an upgrade discount....
Boxed - $79.99 Download - $59.99 Upgrade - $39.99 - so that's a $20 discount on the download version - they do not say that the upgrade price excludes anything. They ought to be a bit more generous to earlier retail 5.5 owners though - after the cutoff date - FREE, before = $39.99 to upgrade from any (as far as I understand it at the moment) If anyone from Nero reads here, how about a $19.99 (or if you can't manage that $29.99) concessionary upgrade? "Everybody has to buy..." Somehow I don't think the masses who got V5.5 bundled will suddenly find it inadequate just because V6 is out (Ok I'm taking that completely out of context to make a point!) And CD writing sotware does not need continual updates for security reasons (unlike internet software and antivirus) - there is a CDDB client in it, but unless some serious vulnerability were to be found.... I got exactly what I planned - a discounted retail 5.5 which I am getting an upgrade on - PC World (UK) have now cut the instore price of Nero 5.5 to £19.99 Last edited by Matth; Jul 13, 2003 at 01:45 PM. |
