Wellypower to produce LCD TV cold cathode fluorescent lamps in 4Q
Wellypower Optronics (formerly Toa Elevam) plans to add new facilities and begin volume production of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) for LCD TV panels at the end of September or in early October. The company’s new facilities will have a monthly capacity of producing 600,000 CCFLs.
Wellypower will transfer its existing facilities that produce CCFLs for LCD monitor and notebook panels to its factory in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province (China) and boost its capacity from 300,000 CCFLs to 900,000 CCFLs by the fourth quarter. TFT LCD producer AU Optronics (AUO) earlier invested US$1.2 million in the Suzhou factory to ensure that AUO’s Suzhou module factory would have a stable supply of CCFLs. Wellypower’s CCFL shipments dropped to less than two million units last month, down from 2.2 million units in both April and May. However, the company expects its shipments to exceed two million units this month. Wellypower, whose shares currently are traded on Taiwan’s Emerging Stock Board, plans to apply to trade on Taiwan’s OTC (over-the-counter) market in the fourth quarter. ______________________ Source: DigiTimes |
