To meet rapidly increasing LCD TV demand, Samsung Electronics and LG.Philips LCD have decided to increase the capacity of their second fifth-generation (5G) TFT LCD lines, according to the Korea Economic Daily.
A South Korean industry source said that Samsung plans to increase the processing capacity of its second 5G TFT LCD line, Line 6, which is scheduled to begin operations in October, from 60,000 substrates per month to 90,000-100,000. Samsung’s first 5G line, Line 5, has a monthly capacity of processing 100,000 substrates.
LG.Philips LCD has probably also decided to increase the monthly capacity of its second 5G line, from 60,000 substrates to 90,000 substrates, but has not announced its decision, according to the same source. The company’s first 5G line has a monthly capacity of processing 60,000 substrates.
