Only resellers can install XP, Microsoft claims
A MICROSOFT ADVERT in an Israeli newspaper claims that only resellers are competent to install Windows XP otherwise machines are bound to crash.
But the claim, which is originally detailed on an Israeli web site but translated by PC Linux Today, apparently is targeted at pirates rather than at Jane Doe. The advert shows a shot of a PC in a trash can, alleged that 75% of computers with OSes not installed by an authorised reseller are likely to crash. But a support technician claimed that the campaign was really targeted at "friends" installing stolen copies of XP on peoples' PCs. Further research had Microsoft claiming that most software which didn't work was installed by home users who bought PCs without an OS and installed them by themselves. We will resist the cheap shot about 95% of computers installed with Vole software crashing. Whoops, sorry, we couldn't resist it. You can find PC Linux Online here, and the Israeli site with a pic of the campaign and the original story, here. _______________________ Source: TheInquirer |

That's funny, the only computer that I couldn't stop from crashing was one I bought for my mom about 4 years ago that had a "pre-installed" copy of win98se on it. After using the "recover" disk 10 times, the only solution was to buy a copy of XP home-ed. and wipe the harddrive and install it the right way, at home. I don' tthink the thing has crashed even once after that- with the same Win XP Home installation on there for many years. (with my nieces (ages 2 to 7 on there all the time) What is Microsoft talking about?

I'm not an authorised installer/distributer/troubleshooter of anything, but I still have never had anyone complain about my work.

The best things are homemade
The same applies here.you can't trust any pc technician that does about 10 win installs a day to take care of your machine. If you want to do something right, do it yourself

I don't get it either, I install windows on people's computers for them all the time and I have yet to hear one complaint about a crash. As a matter of fact most of them became more stable (and less bloated with OEM software) after I performed a clean install. What's more funny is the people that pirate software tend to be more intelligent than an IT anyhow.

Well, no matter what we install windows is bound to crash ..... I can't for Linux to come out with an OS that is really promising.
