Playlogic signs development deal with Engine

Dutch publisher and developer Playlogic International has acquired a 49 per cent interest in specialist handheld developer Engine Software, along with a 2.5 year deal to co-operate on the production of GBA titles.

Under the terms of the deal, Engine will be producing between three and four GBA titles each year, with both titles based on Playlogic games and titles based on new concepts included in the line-up.

The first game to be produced in this partnership will be a GBA title based on Xyanide, Playlogic's forthcoming Xbox Live shoot 'em up title. Funding for all of the projects will come from Playlogic, with Engine doing the development effectively on a contract basis.

Although Playlogic may not be a name which is familiar to many of our readers, the company is fast-growing and now publishes titles on five platforms - PS2, Xbox, PC, Game Boy Advance and, thanks to a previous deal with Overloaded Pocket Media, mobile platforms.

"Engine Software is an experienced handheld game developer whose knowledge and experience is very important to us," enthused Playlogic CEO Willem M Smit. "Together with the deal Playlogic signed with Overloaded Pocket Media B.V. for mobile games, this deal is illustrative for Playlogic International becoming a worldwide multi-platform publisher. We are always looking for new initiatives and content."
