Glitches reported with iPad 2
![]() JUST days before the iPad 2 hits the shelves in Australia, overseas consumers are already reporting apparent defects in the much hyped tablet. Internet forums and technology websites are running hot with users complaining of 'backlight bleeding’ on the touch-screen, as well as dead pixels and problems with the antenna. US website Cult of Mac reviewer David Martin said his original iPad 2 and a replacement device both suffered from backlight bleeding, where light seeped through on the edges when the screen was black. “I spent more than $1,000 for the whole thing with accessories – I want something worth the investment not a dud,” Mr Martin posted on cultofmac.com. “Apple has a serious problem on its hands with the iPad 2 display.” User Sahilio said on an Apple Discussions forum that he exchanged his iPad 2 twice but the third tablet still had glitches. _____________ Source: heraldsun

Re: Glitches reported with iPad 2
Since when screen bleeding is glitches? I guess they are the same people having no idea what an mp3 player is, but owning an ipod of some sort.
I find it funny how one bought an ipad as an investment. LOL

Re: Glitches reported with iPad 2
Actually, the Australian Macworld Editor also complained about the same issue (and so did a number of buyers, it seems), but the market analysts say people will keep buying no matter what.
Exactly. And screens on portable devices generally tend to be worse than those on full size monitors. Though I can understand the disappointment in finding out that the $1000 portable screen they bought (as that's how I essentially see iPad) is crappy. Maybe next time they won't gamble their money by making a large purchase decision on just marketing material or the sole fact that it's out. Still, did they really make it that bad, or that worse than the previous model?!

Re: Glitches reported with iPad 2
Actually having dead pixels or backlight bleeding on a glorified $1000 ebook reader is not acceptable. If you pay $1000 and someone else pays the same amount but gets a product without these problems, then you should request a replacement or your money back since yours is clearly defective.
Apple quality is slipping. And it has done so for a while. Premium prices demand premium quality.

Re: Glitches reported with iPad 2
Since I wouldn't pay $1000 for a glorified ebook reader, I wouldn't know how they feel, but if they do mind and they keep buying them, then, why should Apple care?

Re: Glitches reported with iPad 2
I think they should, since they always considered themselves as being above what they consider to be the industry "standard", something like the industry elite.

Re: Glitches reported with iPad 2
theres a difference between clouding and variants in display issues.... in terms of weak backlight..
but one guy locally here that brought it in to show me mentioned it and the moment he had it on i noticed what he was talking about. the bleeding on some of the displays is quite bad...... we aren't talking the cheapest lcd on the market bleeding.... i'd say while the areas where it's not so much of a problem are nice.. it's like the screens are badly produced.. Really hard to explain.. but it's quite obvious that the first generation ipad was much better with the screen on them.... Some have reported other such issues that are not mentioned here..... so i don't know.. sounds like apple just slapped a hunk of shit together and stamped the ipad2 title on it.... and threw it out on the market...... made an ipad 2 for 50 bucks... sell it for 1000.... massive profits.

Re: Glitches reported with iPad 2
Don't know people are slamming Apples quality control. It's not like they make these things themselves. And for those saying that, ".. never had this problem with the iPad screen, so why am I having a problem with this if it's the same screen?" Well, first of all, it's not. While still being the same size, is not the same panel as in the iPad. The iPad used an S-IPS panel made primarily by LG with Samsung pulling up the rear, while the iPad 2 uses an H-IPS. Now technically the H-IPS panel is better (better contrast), but is LG the only supplier? Probably not as LG was struggling to produce the original iPad screen which is why Samsung (specifically CMI) became a supplier. Rumor has it that with the iPad 2 there are more than just one supplier for the screen, and it makes sense as you have to wonder why everyone that has an iPad 2 isn't complaining about the same issue.
BTW, lest people forget, the iPad had it's own screen issues when it first got released. People noticed that after a while a blue line would show up across the screen, or that there were what looked to be white specks littering the screen, or spots of white blotches, issues with alignment, wavey rainbow/rippling effect, and there were even units that had a pink tint to the screen. |
