Radeon 7xxx series? Wow........ That's really low...... Hopefully they won't sacrifice performance to us high end users at all.

I don't think these specs are being read with perspective. Bear in mind that the minumum requirement for Win XP is 64MB of RAM. Anyone that has run Win XP with that amount of RAM knows how horrible it is. Those specs (to run Doom III) are quite high. Imagine, for example, that a computer with a 1GHz processor, 256MB RAM, and a Radeon 7500 will run Doom III as well as a 233MHz computer with 64MB of RAM will run Win XP.

Command and Conquer Generals BETA required a 2Ghz procesor just to run a multi-player part of the game - yet - when the final was released - all it required was an 800Mhz/1Ghz processor. Kinda funny how things work out when you streamline your final code.

I'll be posting a new DOOM III article this afternoon with the DOOM III alpha being run on 7 PC with different configs this should give you good comparison with the finally version of Doom III as this will be optimised for most hardware.

The minimum of 1 Ghz is quite high. Hopefully is will be playable on a computer with a bit above that minimum ghz.

I never pay any heed to the minimum requirements a game says it takes to run it. Although it is interesting to see what they say you need to run DOOM III. In reality though if you want to run it and make it look good we all know it will take a much better setup than that. Seeing how it would run on that system would make you want to upgrade even MORE.

Well it is although written for the new generations of PCs. That's 3 ghz and Radeon 9800 cards and 1 gig RAM.....or something like that.

It doesn't matter much for me if my comp can't play that game, since I don't play game as much as I used to do anyway

John himselves have stated doom3 will be playable on radeon8500 and others.
Doom3 prolly will have scalable engine like HL2 to run on older hardwares.

so i find the sys req reasonable.

Recently we posted some Speculative DOOM III System Requirements that where then confirmed by id Software's John Carmack and now we have found an article posted over at Gamezoom.net, that put's the Doom III system requirements on test. Here's a quick translation as the site's in German.

DOOM III alpha is being run on 7 PC's with different configurations. This should give you a good preliminary comparison with the final version of Doom III as this will be optimised for most hardware.

The reason why they put minimum requirements is to keep people from thinking they can install the game on a slower system - then complain 'its SO slow' Well DUH
