ATI RADEON 9800 and RADEON 9800 SE Core and Memory Clocks Unveiled

We finally managed to find out the information about core and memory clocks of the mysterious RADEON 9800 and RADEON 9800 SE graphics cards we talked about quite a number of times. Products based on the mentioned graphics processors will be available from ATI Technologies’ AIB partners shortly, so, it seems to be useful for some of our readers to learn the specs of the newcomers now.

The RADEON 9800 is non other, but an under-clocked RADEON 9800 PRO! It boasts with 8 rendering pipelines and 256-bit memory bus for 128MB of DDR SDRAM, hence, the only difference between the $299 and the $399 graphics cards is slightly lower performance of the non-PRO solution. According to information I have at hand here, the clocks of the RADEON 9800 will be 325MHz for core and 580MHz for memory.

Everything is not that simple with the RADEON 9800 SE. As we reported last week, there are two versions of the RADEON 9800 SE: one with simplified PCB design and 128-bit memory, offering speeds comparable to that of the RADEON 9600-series, another is more powerful using 256-bit memory bus, but a slightly modified R350 core with only 4 rendering pipelines. Such more expensive solution will function at 325/600MHz for graphics processor/DDR SDRAM and will probably become an interesting option for enthusiasts. The only concern is that its price will be about $200 - $249, a bit more than a typical hardware enthusiast in budget can afford for a graphics card that needs a modification to perform on $299 or $399 level.

This is just like the thing with the 9500pro and the 9700np.
