Re: Sandy Bridge 8-core coming 2012
nice, but games don't use that many cores. Be hard for the "enthusiast" to justify it other than bragging rights.

10 cores + 25MB on Ivy Bridge sounds crazy! lol I wonder what the prices are going to be.

Re: Sandy Bridge 8-core coming 2012
Damn they don't say "when" they expect the c2 stepping 8 core version to be released.. not even a Quater date..
I've already got someone potentially lined up to build a super machine using the Best intel 2011 System manageable with the most amount of GPU/CPU/RAM/SSD power possible..... Look forward to building it if/when they give me the call to go ahead.... (not to mention the potential insane display system that may go with it)

Re: Sandy Bridge 8-core coming 2012
The naming scheme they've chosen for the 6-core SB chips makes me think that they have no intention of bringing 8-core SB to the enthusiast space - they've left no space to differentiate 8-core models. Which means Xeons only for those that want it, presumably with locked multipliers and clocks, and as such presumably slower than an overclocked 6-core. Bad times for all involved.

Re: Sandy Bridge 8-core coming 2012
An eight core Ivy Bridge non-E would've been great, but no. Mainstream editions will probably remain four core throughout next year as well. They have no incentive to really push onwards at the moment. Not that I don't like chips with a lower target for power consumption, but when that is where all the fun is?
