Nvidia plan to enter the next generation from the bottom up, with a mid-range card, featuring a 384-bit memory bus (like the rumoured AMD next-gen high-end) functioning as a temporary flagship and the basis for a dual-GPU card until Nvidia's next "full-size" GPU in late 2012/early 2013.

so a "690" is a year away...

Aye, but a "GTX660x2", which would presumably be faster than the single uber-GPU and competitive with dual-downclocked-uber-GPUs if this generation is anything to go by, will be much sooner.
