Holy smeg and bacon! I thought those things cost billions. In that case wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the real stuff?

Re: Hackers launching own satellites in orbit to beat Censorship
What do you mean by "the real stuff"?
Those things will be expensive, but I imagine they'll find a way of doing it on the cheap by not having all the responsibility issues of a state-sponsored or corporate-sponsored program. Also, satellite internet is slow.

Re: Hackers launching own satellites in orbit to beat Censorship
I read this story somewhere else and it stated that private individuals had already launched satellites into space. Although they were less reliable and more likely to come crashing back to Earth.
In principal this is a good move. The internet needs to be taken out of the hands of government bodies and placed firmly in the public domain. |

Re: Hackers launching own satellites in orbit to beat Censorship
The things that will likely get censored in reality goes way beyond a couple of songs, a movie or two and some pirated games. There are some very wealthy corporations and individuals that are opposed to SOPA and PIPA and I wouldn't put it past them to take measures like this to keeps things running. More power to them.

Re: Hackers launching own satellites in orbit to beat Censorship
sopa can go to hell..
They make laws in which they completely ignore the corruption/abuse of power that is highly prevailent throughout the world.. And costing a couble dozen million to launched a high class satalite into orbit vs the billions prior.. yup.. wouldn't take much of us to donate a few hundred bucks to get our own untamperable satilites short of them blowing it out of the sky or using other technologies to block it which would be some kind of a act of aggression..
