Pioneer claims 50-inch plasma TV breakthrough

JAPANESE FIRM Pioneer today claimed it's ahead of the plasma TV pack and will release two slimline models in August and September, initially in Japan.

The Pure Vision range include a 43-inch model costing ¥850,000 (around $7,000) and a 50-inch model costing ¥1,100,000 (around $9,000). When it starts production of the units, Pioneer will pump out 3,500 units a month for each TV.

The TVs include MPEG noise reduction to get rid of so-called mosquito noise, will display over 1.07 billion hues, and power saving features.

Speakers can be attached to the sides or under the main display unit, and Pioneer will also offer tabletop stands, a wall mounting unit, and 10 metre and 30 metre cables.

It's also going to offer Pure Vision Theater 900, which is a DVD 5.1 channel surround system, and the 501 which includes an AV amplifier, a speaker system, and a powered sub woofer.
