Video comes after audio. That's been the prevailing pattern for multimedia products recently, and when it comes to portable media players, it's no different. These devices need lots of storage space and a big display, and have lagged behind the iPod, Zen and other hard-drive based music players.
Samsung, Sanyo and ViewSonic are developing portable media player/recorders using Microsoft's Media2Go technology. But leave it to tiny Archos to yet again steal their thunder. Archos, you may recall, was the first to ship a hard-drive based audio player. Now the company is shipping two models of a media player/recorder – beating nearly everyone else to market.
