Gigabyte Showcases Mainboards for AMD 64-bit CPUs
Gigabyte Technology obviously cannot wait a month for Computex Taipei 2003 to kick off and showcases some of its products already now. This may seem a bit surprising, but Gigabyte is demonstrating mainboards designed for AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron processors that will either not be needed by the market until late September – early October or simply will not be in demand by the masses at all, however, this may be a right decision to attract attention to the highly-anticipated AMD 64-bit technology.
At a special demonstration show in a Japanese café Gigabyte offers the crowd to preview its mainboards based on AMD 8000, NVIDIA CK8 and VIT K8T800 chipsets formally unveiled in early June. This Japanese web-site even published some pictures of the newcomers. GA-7A8DW: 2 Socket 940 for AMD Opteron CPUs; AMD 8151 + 8131 + 8111; 4 DIMM slots for PC2100 or PC2700 memory; AGP 8x, 1 PCI 32-bit 33MHz slot, 1 PCI-X 100MHz slot, 1 PCI-X 133MHz slot; 2-channel ATA-33/66/100; 10/100/1000Mb/s Ethernet controller; ATX. GA-K8NNXP: Socket 754; NVIDIA Crush K8; HyperTransport link; 3 DIMM slots for up to 3GB of PC2100; PC2700 or PC3200 memory; AGP 8x; 5 PCI slots; 2-channel ATA-33/66/100/133; 2-channel Serial ATA-150 controller; 8 USB 2.0 ports; FireWire; Dual 10/100/1000Mb/s LAN; 6-channel audio from CMedia (nor NVIDIA's APU); ATX. GA-K8VNXP: Socket 754; VIA K8T400M + VT8237; HyperTransport link; 3 DIMM slots for up to 3GB of PC2100; PC2700 or PC3200 memory; AGP 8x; 5 PCI slots; 2-channel ATA-33/66/100/133; 2-channel Serial ATA-150 controller; 8 USB 2.0 ports; FireWire; Dual 10/100/1000Mb/s LAN; 6-channel audio from CMedia; ATX. As a year ago, everything is ready for AMD Athlon 64 product launch. I even would not exclude a possibility of situation when mainboards for AMD 64-bit processors for desktop computers appear for sale earlier than the chips themselves set to be finally unveiled on the 23rd of September. ______________________ Source: X-BitLabs |
