Celeron price cut & strong P4 demand to heat up mobo market in 3Q
Taiwanese motherboard makers are optimistic about third-quarter sales due to the anticipated price cut on desktop Celeron processors and strong demand for 800MHz FSB (front-side bus) Pentium 4 processors, company sources said.
Sources provided pricing information expanding on earlier reports that Intel plans to cut prices on its desktop Celeron processors on August 24 (see table). Other earlier reports also leaked that Intel expects to introduce a 2.7GHz Celeron processor by late in the third quarter, which should also help heat up the market. Desktop motherboards equipped with Pentium 4 processors supporting an 800MHZ FSB and Intel 865 chipsets have enjoyed especially good sales since earlier this month, thanks to their relatively good performance and control at the supply end, local motherboard makers said. As no major changes are expected for desktop Pentium 4 prices and overall desktop processor specifications, Taiwanese motherboard makers plan to adjust the ratio of sea and air shipment to 5:5 in the third quarter from 4:6 in the past, motherboard makers said. ______________________ Source: DigiTimes |
