First-tier motherboard maker Asustek Computer will achieve record shipments of motherboards, notebooks, optical drives and PDAs in July, according to company vice president of sales and marketing Benson Lin.

In its main business of motherboards, Asustek is expected to ship at least 2.3 million units in July, up from 2.1 million units in June. The figures do not include shipments from the company’s ASRock subsidiary.

Lin pointed out that shipments of Asustek’s lower priced “-X” motherboards have grown significantly since their inception in the first quarter of this year. In the second quarter, “-X” boards accounted for 30% of all Asustek motherboard shipments, and they should increase to 35% in the third quarter, according to Lin.

No shipment data was revealed in Asustek’s other product lines.

Strong sales in both OEM and clone markets were the contributing factors for Asustek’s recent success, said Lin.
