ECS to launch Radeon 7000 and Radeon 9200SE graphics cards

Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) will start marketing graphics cards based on the entry-level Radeon 7000 and Radeon 9200SE chips from ATI Technologies, said ATI Taiwan agent AMI Technologies.

ECS will only target the Asia-Pacific and Latin American markets, added AMI.

ATI’s main priority is to protect its add-in board (AIB) partnerships with graphics card makers in various world markets, and to not disrupt its partners’ profits, said AMI. ATI’s existing AIB partners worldwide are already established in the high-end graphics card market.

ATI hopes to gain market share in the entry-level market dominated by Nvidia’s MX-based cards. Analysts believe that ECS, with its significant experience in the low-cost motherboard market, could help ATI compete in this low-cost graphics segment.
