BenQ Launches World’s Fastest DVD+RW Drive with DW400A
SINGAPORE – Ever dreamt of producing your own DVD movies, but was hampered by slow DVD-writing speeds? BenQ is proud to introduce the world’s fastest DVD+RW drive, the new DW400A. Offering 4x write and 4x re-write speeds, the DW400A utilises components from Philips BenQ Digital Storage (PBDS) and surpasses all other DVD writers in speed.
The BenQ DW400A includes BenQ's exclusive Tilt Control technology, which automatically adjusts the angle of the write head to maintain burn quality. The DW400A fully supports Mount Rainier technology, which simplifies and speeds the burning process. A specially designed software interface effectively eases the learning curve for newcomers to DVD burning, allowing users to quickly incorporate a new source of enjoyment into their lifestyles. Equipped with three software applications for playback, editing and burning, individual users and their families can edit their digital videos and write DVDs of their own creations. By allowing users to preserve video clips, full-length movies, music, and any other digital data onto an optical disk, the DW400A is an ideal tool for producing one's own custom DVDs for personal enjoyment and sharing. Besides its ability to provide fast, reliable burns, the DW400A supports the broadest range of DVD formats and utilises the IDE interface, giving users easy access to the enjoyment and convenience of DVD burning without worrying about compatibility problems. With the DW400A, users are able to read both +R/+RW and -R/-RW discs, as well as write on a +R/+RW disc. Although DVD dual drives are capable of writing +R/+RW and -R/-RW, one will usually only need one type of disc for burning. Therefore, why pay considerably more for features you will rarely use and for discs you will not need, when BenQ DVD+RW is the perfect solution for reading all shared data from both +R/+RW or -R/-RW disc? Rick Hsiao, Managing Director of BENQ Southeast Asia said: "With the increasing demand to edit and store great quantities of audiovisual content, BenQ is pleased to unveil the world’s fastest DVD+RW, the DW400A. With its ability to burn large quantities of data rapidly and its reliable burn quality, we believe that the DW400A will become an indispensable source of enjoyment for our consumers.” DVD burners are this year's product focus for BenQ's Optical Storage Business Unit. The DW400A will solidify BenQ’s brand leadership in the optical disk drive market as well as stimulate market demand for high-speed DVD burners. __________________________ Source: HardwareZone |

maybe this writer has special features but i believe Plextor introduced a 8x DVD writer
i quote: Plextor, one of the leading companies for the development and production of CD-ROM drives, CD-Recorders and CD-ReWriters is expanding its range with its first Dual Format drive: PX-708A, which writes DVD's at 8-speed, rewrites at 4-speed using the DVD plus format. With the DVD minus format, this drive writes at 4x and rewrites at 2x. The PX-708A reads DVD-ROMs at 12x. ok, dvd-rw is at 2x speed but for the rest it's the same and faster source: http://www.plextor.be/english/products/PX708Ap.html

I wonder if they can ever get to cd speeds, , like 32 R and 16 RW. Anyway, hope people decide on universal +/- soon, gets annoying trying to get specific type.
