Geforce FX 5900 Ultra, NV35 supports pixel shader 3.0

WE HEARD THAT Nvidia took one step forward from ATI as far as hardware development is concerned.

You can hardly see any game that has support for Pixel shader 2.0 and its fancy stuff. Even the first hardware that was capable of handling it, the Radeon 9700 PRO, R300 was introduced more than a year ago now.

Games like Half Life 2 will change this and games like Tomb, lot of clipping bugs Raider have support for it already.

Some of Nvidia guys that know how things work have told our friends that NV35, Geforce FX 5900 Ultra already has support for pixel shader 3.0 but there is no any driver publicly available that will support it. ยต The same source implied that when Nvidia tested pixel shader 3.0 internally, there was a hardware problem.

We reckon that Nvidia is practising for NV40 and who knows, if it fixes things NV38 could end up with pixel shader 3.0 support, highly unlikely but still possible.

We would like to know what developers think about Pixel Shader 3.0 as we know that it can make a difference and give you guys more freedom. Feel free to share your comments.

Nvidia still might have some more ammunition than it want people to know about.

I think they should try getting the predecessor working correctly before attemping to incorporate its successor.

Why try and fix whats broke, it would probably be easier just to get a new line and forget fx, start on the upside again.

Yeah, it would be a good idea to completely start over, but the problem is that that requires effort, and nvida's staff is probably burned out after just finishing a completely new chip.
