As expected, Valve has now released the first non beta version of Steam, its broadband platform for the delivery and management of digital content (Counter Strike v1.6 amongst other).

WHAT IS STEAM?

Steam is Valve's new way of getting games into your hands ASAP. Games like Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and Counter-Strike Condition Zero are all being made available through Steam.

Yeah, you guys try to download the updates..... HAHAHAH, took me 4 tires to get steam to download the updates..... HAHAHA, yeah and if CS 1.6 would even actually DL... I've restarted steam so many times and I cannot get CS 1.6 to download for the life of me... Steam keeps on losing the conenct... And it's only morning now.... Can you imagine how slow this will be tonight??? LOL

Yep, this one here just stopped at 74% - again. I don't think there will be much chance of me wanting to purchase HL2 through steam now.

dude it worked for me 1st time stated downloadin and it got to 100%... finished @12:00 cst

D/l'd from fileplanet where it states you get to play half life and counter strike for free (FREE in uppercase to get your attention). and guess what? you need a CD key to play anything. This is truly crap.

I read why steampowered.com is down.. Somehow the installer got leaked 2 hours earlier than desired. People flooded to www.steampowered.com and used ALL OF THEIR BANDWIDTH... THat's freaking amazing.

CS 1.6 update
As most of you know, Steam 2.0/CS 1.6 Beta was released on Thursday, although not quite. Valve severely underestimated the amount of demand for a new version of Counter-Strike 1.6. To make matters worse, valve had given a sneak preview of Steam 2.0/CS 1.6 Beta to cs fan sites throughout the internet on Tuesday, unfortunately the steam client was leaked an hour or so before valve had officially released it. The Steam client spread like wild fires during that one hour period. by the time valve had officially released Steam all of valve's bandwidth (500mbits) was being consumed. Valve quickly suspended further download of the Steam client until they could dig up some more content servers.

Is once again not suprized. Oh you though I was a crazy preacher on the street did you? Well, not anyone here specifically, just that it happened... and its going to happen again with HL2... Getting it from the store will probibly be faster for quite a few of you.

Does anyone know if installing 1.5 BEFORE 1.6 helps much? I used to run the beta, but deleted it. So now I'm downloading everything from scratch. But I've been at it for 6 hours. Steam is saying it's just downloading at about 30kb/s .... but du meter just shows about 3kb/s..... This is never gonna finish.. anyone having problems downloading?
