Chipset makers having a slump in sales this Quarter

Taiwan's core-logic chipset companies posted declines in their second-quarter sales amid competition from Intel Corp. and sluggish worldwide PC demand.

Via Technologies Inc., Intel's biggest rival in chipset design, said sales in the June quarter fell 28% sequentially, to $157.8 million, their lowest level in more than a year.

Sales at Silicon Integrated Systems Inc. (SiS) dropped 10.6%, to $96.4 million, during the same period. ALi Corp. announced that its second-quarter sales will be “slightly down” from $18.9 million in May. The revenue figures were estimates, with the company expected to release full-quarter earnings later this month.
