Exclusive: Windows XP Kernel Update Build 1240 English-German
PM over at Warp2search.net has snagged a new Windows XP Kernel version 1240!
A few weeks ago a big Windows XP download was been sighted on DELL´s FTP server, the 47 MB download had fixed issues reported in KB 823583 , Availability of a Processor Driver to Support Mobile Processor Power Management Features on Mobile Intel Pentium 4M Processors with Hyper-Threading Technology We were still wondering why this package was that big and [PM] started some investigation. And look what he found: A Windows XP Kernel Update, Build 1240, which is not reported in Microsoft Knowledge Base. For More Info and the download head on over to Warp2search.net |

Installed it on my via chipset system where the ATI TV Wonder froze up for the past 3 months and I could not find a solution. This cleared it. Seems something with memory management improved as CPU sometimes did go to 100%

Installed on nForce2 chipset - AMD 2500+ (See sig)
All appears well.... well keep you all posted. Thus far speed seems to have improved during boot time and application loading time.

Is this only for XP Pro, or can it be applied to XP Home as well?

I just installed it- Seems to be working fine. Boot-up does seem snappier, w/o question.

I'm still awaiting confirmation that it can be installed on XP Home. So far, I see that it works on XP Pro.

Hmmmmmmm...
Dont know, If you have Norton 2003 Ghost you could do a ghost image of your OS drive and apply the patch - that way if all fails then you can restore your PC exactly back to how it was. If you need any other info PM me.

Right now I'm running Build 2600.xpsp2.030618-0119 (Service PAck2, v.1240) on my system and minus a few minor registry tweaks - it doesn't appear much different. I've heard the final SP2 will allow mutliple users to log in via Remote Desktop (FINALLY) as well as some (scaled back) features only found in Windows 2003 Server. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Somebody @ Microsoft needs to do some leaking lol anyone running sp2 1213 this wont install just unpack it with something like winrar and then copy olny ntkrnlpa.exe ntoskrnl.exe to your windows sytem 32 directory duel cpu systems use ntkrnlmp.exe ntkrpamp.exe spmsg.dll is an older file than included with 1213 so dont do anything with it and walla your done... you can also drg the files to your xpsp2 1213 file directory and just replace those 2 files .. meaning next time you re instal you gett the dell patch automaticlly
