Diamond Multimedia Welcome Back!
Havent seen or heard anything from these guys in awhile. Let the games begin! Diamond Multimedia is back in the graphics card game, offering both ATI and nVidia solutions. Here is the PR:
Los Angeles, California – October 27, 2003 – Diamond Multimedia®, a pioneer in the graphics industry, today announced its return to the consumer graphics market with plans to launch next-generation graphics accelerators under its legendary Stealth® and Viper® brands, two of the most well-known and respected retail names in graphics history. Continuing the tradition of these brands, the Stealth product line will offer a full series of value-based cards while Viper will target high-end gamers. True to its heritage, Diamond will continue to remain chip vendor neutral, offering consumers products from multiple vendors to provide maximum performance and value at each price point. The first new Diamond products will begin shipping in November and are planned to feature technology from both of the leading graphics chip vendors, ATI and NVIDIA. As with previous Diamond products, the new lines will include bundles of popular software titles and additional offers and will be available at national retailers and through distribution. Here is the Website: Diamond Multimedia |

I bought a Diamond Stealth 3D Pro PCI card just prior to my very first ATi All-in-Wonder 8 MB PCI card. I mainly bought the DS card for the video out. However, once I realized that the ATi card could output to 800x600 -- while the DS card could only do 640x480, I immediately upgraded to ATi and haven't looked elsewhere since.
I still, however, have that DS card and use it in older systems from time-to-time. In fact, I recently used it to output to an old VGA Monitor using the Video Out. (Anyone remember the SR 3000 from Sears? )Anyway, I'm sure we'll all welcome the competition. It can only mean better pricing for the consumer.

Too bad it isn't Diamond itself, but just some company that bought the name Diamond Multimedia, so I'm just hoping they'll give the same quality products, something I'll doubt though.

I just know that, at the time I was looking (maybe '96 or '97) everyone I talked to said to go with Diamond Multimedia. The fact I still have this card around here attests to its durability.

If only they made a better driver for the Stealth 3D 4000 AGP I'm using. This one doesn't even support DirectX 8
