Spyware That Came in for the Code

The spread and infection of Spyware is something to be concerned about. I would say most of the Windows and software related problems that I see as a technician is spyware. I can not stress enough how important it is for this to be taken seriously and for action to be taken. My opinion is that the government is overly concerned about the wrong thing. It is easy to avoid spam. But just surfing the internet can result in spyware being installed on your system through cookies and other scripts. If you need help removing spyware then check out my guide. Spyware Guide

When downloaded, the cracked files -- files that have been manipulated by hackers -- contained a nasty surprise. It was Spybot.gen, a pesky program that would imbed itself into the computer user's hard drive.

From there, it had the power to read Microsoft Word documents and send the contents back to Spybot.gen's author, or to an accomplice. It could also record key strokes, potentially intercepting credit card or other banking details.

It could even command the computer to open its compact disc drive panel.

In computer security parlance, Spybot.gen is known as spyware because it plants itself into a computer without the user's knowledge.

I've been having problems with Spybot updating. I sent an email inquiring about that. It happens to be one of my major tools to get rid of here where I work. The problem is that it hasn't been updating. It just locks up.

Same problem here with Spybot. Get lockups when I do the Search for Updates.
This has been happening just recently...past 3-4 weeks I would say. I just go their
site and manually download, then install the updates.

Also, last night Ad-Aware did the same thing. Locked up with the Auto-update.
Again a manual install of the latest "reflist" file was necessary.

Solution to Spybot problem. After you the list of updates, change the Mirror on top before downloading. It should then download.

If your having problems with spybot like I did in the past, then download Spyware Blaster and use it in conjunction with one of the Adaware versions. I have had no problems since using both of these programs together. Just my 2 cents worth! Here`s the link:http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

If you guys read my spyware guide, you would see that spyware blaster is a part of it. It is important to use it last because it doesn't remove existing spyware. It keeps it from being installed in the first place which is sweet.

If you notice the spyware blaster homepage, you will see the thing on top for "Spyware Guard".

I've been testing this and it works nice. The thing is, if you use it and update spybot and spyware blaster, it gives you a warning. So if you use this program or other programs that monitor for spyware activity, deactivate them before updating programs like spybot and spyware blaster or the update may not take effect.
