Broadband barriers are breaking
The promise of convergence, lower prices, and convenience are driving more consumers to adopt broadband Internet services, according to a recent report by a division of Gartner. GartnerG2 expects 46 million households to make the broadband jump by 2007, up from 18 million households in 2003.
Laura Behrens, Gartner analyst, says broadband is experiencing healthy growth. "More people have been exposed to the advantages of broadband, mostly through the workplace," Behrens says. "It's not unlike how the PC got into a lot of homes." According to Gartner, 24 per cent of traditional dial-up users access digital media content (games, music, videos). That number jumps to 40 per cent for broadband users. Broadband users are also more likely to conduct transactions (shopping, banking, trading) than dial-up users. Just 21 per cent of dial-up users participate in ecommerce, compared to 36 per cent of broadband users. Behrens says the broadband consumer is definitely more attractive for retailers and rich media content providers. "Broadband users are more affluent and they spend more time online than dial-up users," Behrens says. "It's a lot easier to shop on a broadband connection. Anything that requires the exchange of information happens in almost real time." By Jon Surmacz More here Source: Digit Magazine Online |

I had xDSL at the previous place for 3 years before moving to this place a little more than a year and a half ago. I could not get DSL here, but we are less than one block from the Marietta Main CO and BellSouth would NOT install a run for it.
Finally, in July, a year ago, AT&T stopped by to ask if we were interested in Cable TV connection. (We had satellite.) I asked about whether they had Cable Internet Broadband. They did...and now we do, too. (Of course, it's Comcast now.)BUT, from March to July, I absolutely DESPISED having to use a 56K modem on a line that would never get more than a 28K download. |

Well by that time, no one will have updated their infrastructures and "Broadband" will be 128k up and down during non peak hours.
