Volari Duo V8 review at Toms Hardware

Toms Hardware have reviewed the soon to be released XGI Volari Duo V8.

Head on over here to see how it did against the ATI and Nvidia cards currently on the market.

Thanks to The Neon Cowboy for pointing this out.

Thats a little harsh, it doesnt look that bad, remember the drivers arent finished and it takes time for a company to get back into the big league with ATI and Nvidia.

Always good to see other companies trying.

For beta/beta it isn't too bad. Interesting concept too- dual chip/ 16 pipe. Honestly those screenshots and some of the benchmark tests (custom ones especially) made me really appreciate my "old" 9700pro.

If this XGI card is perfected and tweaked it could make for a real contender if the price is right. It definitely is good for competition without question- I hope it does really good, it will be good for everyone.

Hopefully the improve their final drivers, this does not look pretty for a high end card. I agree with Neon though, competition could Force ATI and Nvidia to step up newer cards.

Someting to remember/take into account is it can only use 8 of its pipelines for any 1 frame (not the full 16) and additionally it has a shader architecture which is roughly the same as the 5700U and so will have roughly the same performance in when a lot of shaders are used on any 1 frame.

Thats what will probably hold back the final product...

Yeah, hopefully they can tweak the drivers enough to get some good performance out of it. I think that is where the company (XGI) will either fail or succeed- in the driver development. It looks like they have a pretty decent card for the hardware side.
