ATI M10 v Nvidia FX 5700 go

We have a head to head comparison of a notebook with the soon to be announced GeForce FX 5700 Go, vs. an M10 notebook with the lowest possible shipping clocks. You'll note that, despite the fact that M10's clocks are super low, and the NV36M notebook is overclocked with cooling (the official shipping config is 400MHz memory, not 450MHz), M10 wins most of the tests. The NV36 was using a large fan to retain stability in these tests.

It's also interesting to note that M10 would have won nearly 100% of the tests, had we used the more popular 350/250 config, and M11, which is already sampling, wins every test we could throw at it. It's also important to note that these charts are generated using the new Detonator driver, which have been accused of compromising image quality in favour of performance.

To see the performance figures follow this thread into our forum, its interesting reading. click "view article comments"

Green is where ATI wins, Red is where Nvidia wins.

the information "the official shipping config is 400MHz memory, not 450MHz" does not match the clocks listed in the table (450e/275m). Should that be 400Mhz core instead?
Some non-AA/non-AF scores (or with lower AA/AF settings) would also be nice - since most of the tests here seem to indicate neither of the cards will play really well with the settings used.

As noted in the post on the front page, nV5700GO is overclocked, while M10 is at stock speeds. Of course, AA and AF are not really for laptops anyway. I would be happy to be able to play anything at all .

I am aware that it's overclocked, but the text says 450Mhz instead of 400Mhz memory whereas the table lists the memory clock as 275Mhz.

There must just be a typo, because you double 275 to be 550(DDR memory). 450 resembles more of the core speed. Interesting comparison either way. Nvidia seems to just have issues in the mobile field all together.

I would just like to point out that there is an error in your post.
You stated that the lowest shipping M10 was used.
Perhaps you could utilize the M10 in the HP Compaq Business Notebook nc6000 ?

GPU: 250mhz
Mem: 197mhz ddr (394mhz)

Could this be considered for a performance comparison?

M11 should just be the mobile version of the 9600xt. As such, you shouldn't expect miracles from it, all performance increases over M10 will just be because of increased clockspeed, but without any idea what the clocks could be it's hard to guesstimate performance. However, since it should use a fair bit amount of less power than an M10 if clocked the same (cause it's using the low-k 0.13um process), there's hope it's clocked quite a bit higher. Personally, I'd guess it will ship at 400Mhz core / 250Mhz mem or something similar (should offer very competitive performance while keeping power consumption low). But maybe there will be differently clocked versions, just as with the M10.

edit: There are several signs that it will appear really soon (apart from zardon stating it is sampling already), dell already had a 8600 inspiron which supposedly used this chip on its (only france & spain) web page (but no longer there). Chip ID's are also already in the XFree86 driver.
