[H]ardocp - As with most of our PREviews, we have very little to go on when it comes to performance as we do not have a review board as of yet, although there are a few things we can say for certain.
The NVIDIA IGP will certainly be the most powerful integrated video solution on the planet, even lending itself to casual 3D gamers. That is, until something better comes along. While something along the lines of a GF4 MX 420 is not going to do it for the gaming enthusiast, it should allow for many more folks to dabble in 3D games that never would have done so because of the performance limitations of their system [H] Read Here Anandtech`s -Provided that NVIDIA can address those issues with nForce2 and given that we can trust their performance expectations for the chipset, VIA could finally face some reasonable competition in the Socket-A market. Let’s not forget that NVIDIA’s Hammer solution, codenamed CK8, will be a very close derivative of nForce2 and thus a successful nForce2 launch could translate into promising results with Hammer. Anand`s Read HERE Tom`s Hardware Guide -After the first nForce was introduced a year ago, it was only to be expected that NVIDIA would not be content with a simple overhaul of the product. As a matter of fact, the nForce2 is a completely new product that harks on the technology of its predecessor. NVIDIA is not the only one to support DDR400 - VIA is set to go with its KT400, and SiS isn't standing by idly either. However, the latter two products should work with only one memory controller, in contrast to nForce, which provides two. Tom`s Read HERE UPDATE Bjorn3D nForce2: Today, NVIDIA is announcing it's latest product, . . .the second generation nForce motherboard chipset to support AMD's Athlon family of Socket-A processors. As we discussed in our review of the original nForce platform, back in December 2001, nForce is a departure from traditional model the all-in-one motherboard solutions. They've incorporated audio, video, network, and high speed bus technology that make it stand above the eMachine class all-in-one motherboards. With this preview, we'll review what NVIDIA has on the nForce platform and what's new with nForce 2. We do not yet have a sample to test, so this preview is based upon press information provided by NVIDIA and on discussion with the NVIDIA staff. Preview HERE nForce2 @ 3DGPU: It was just over a year ago that NVIDIA . . . announced their first foray into the motherboard chipset market with the original nForce chipset. It introduced several great new features, including real-time Dolby Digital on board, and integrated graphics performance that was head and shoulders above the competition. However, it was slow to be released into the market, and once released, did not show the huge performance gains everyone hoped to see. Also, with with the integrated graphics core, the price was higher than many people were willing to pay, especially if you were going to add a high-performance video card Preview HERE AMDMB And nForce2: It was back in September of 2001 . . .that we first took a look at the original NVIDIA nForce chipset. At the time the goals of NVIDIA for their first AMD chipset looked to be lofty, but attainable none-the-less. NVIDIA was able to bring to market the worlds fastest and best performing integrated graphics solution on any platform – AMD or Intel. The chipset offered the most robust feature set we had yet seen on a motherboard including a high quality 6-channel audio system. However, where NVIDIA lacked was in the pure system performance area. The nForce chipset was a good performer, but it was never to out strip any of the VIA chipsets to become the top contender. Preview HERE 3DVelocity nForce2: nForce2 is a the natural evolution of nForce1 . . . but rather than just add a tweak or two here and there NVIDIA have done what they know best, stepped back and asked themselves what the most demanding PC user wants from a quality motherboard. nForce2 will appear in various configurations all built around two "North Bridges" and two "South Bridges". These four chips will form the core of what looks like being an incredibly flexible and capable system that will allow motherboard manufacturers to offer a bewildering array of features and bundles positioned at a broad range of price points.
