Music will be saved by piracy crackdown
"Downloading to remain niche market?
The music industry will remain flat for another two years – and when it does pick up, the music industry will have the crackdown on file-sharers to thank, according to a report. The study, The Global Music Industry, from Informa Media Group predicts that music revenues will drop under $28bn next year, but will pick up in 2005, growing to around $32bn by 2008. It says that this will be because the industry will get a handle on file-sharing and put more stringent controls on CD copying, rather than because consumers will spend more on their music. When will they figure out that charging less per cd will let them sell more? That's why services like iTunes are so popular right now. To make it even more popular, and to really cash in, they should open up their archives and digitize every piece of music they have since somebody out there loves listening to it. All those old records that never got turned into tapes or CDs is what I'm talking about. Their sales would skyrocket by doing that, and once it's digital they wouldn't have to print CDs unless they offered a custom CD service also.

That study was probably paid for by the RIAA
"The study, The Global Music Industry, from Informa Media Group predicts that music revenues will drop under $28bn next year, but will pick up in 2005, growing to around $32bn by 2008." WHATEVER- They can't predict the future, they can't even diagnose the present. The reason music is not selling well is because the quality of 90% of the music on the market is garbage. On top of that, it is overpriced by about 400%. They are just trying to justify arresting people. I don't believe a word of it.

The spanish RIAA called SGAE has put a tax over recordable cds. We use to pay about 6 $ per 25 cds now we pay 12 $. I hate riaa and sgae and all the artist who promote such stupid actions
. I'll buy the original cd if it costs less, overpricing is killing this industry not piracy

Do you find modern CD's a poor listening experience?
http://www.loudnessrace.net Clipping and distortion now included! And how about artificially created "Pop Idol" type acts and recordings - download it, listen a couple of times, and then discard it! The pain of the music industry, is the excessive reliance on short-lived, no loyalty "plastic pop", and a lack of realization of the growing market of people who need NO advertising budget spent on them, and who probably would pay for downloads if priced sensibly low ... 50p per track would still work out to £10 for a 20 track CD (and I find that expensive, since I usually buy £2.99 cheap label compilations). |

I stopped buying cd's a few years ago. Almost all the new bands suck (my opinion) so until good music comes back they will not get my money!!!!!!!
I have 600+ cd's so i'm set for a while. if i had a server i would upload all of my cd's to the world

itunes is uprofitable for apple, so they may not follow their lead. However, it is good because most cds have maybe 1 or 2 good songs, so its $2.00 and no more for spam songs.
