CompUSA shopper beware

"Seems CompUSA has changed it's return policy and is now charging a 15% re-stocking fee. I have not experienced this myself but several people have and I wonder if it is a sign of stores becoming very strict on return policies."

CompUSA has always, as long as I can remember, had a 15% return fee on items that are returned for refund. If you're going to exchange a bad item for a good one, there's not an additional fee.

This is not a change in policy. In fact, I dealt with this, personally, several years ago.

It's this way with many stores, yes.

Comp USA is a rip off anyway- I hate that place- Best Buy and Circuit City are pretty non-customer oriented too.

Quite frankly, a LOT of stores and suppliers have a restocking fee for items that are returned having been opened and not for an exchange for another item. It's simply one way to curb having items returned without good reason. Opened items that are in good condition still can't be resold at the original selling price. I don't know of anyone who charges this fee if the item is bad and exchanged for the same product or even a higher priced one.

It isn't just computer supplies, either. A lot of the lumber, plumbing, hardware, and tools suppliers I deal with in my business also have restocking fees. The average is 15%.

Honestly, I'm surprised anyone is making a big issue of this because it's a standard practice of so many places.

Yeah, come on , how many of you would buy used stuff sold as new. You cant expect to change your mind on things without some impact.

What ever happened to "Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back"? Those companies make enough money to offer your money back if not satisfied with the product. I think companies like that are just stingy bastages. Even if there is a problem with the product and you don't want to get the identical product back for exchange, and you just want your money back, they give you a hard time and won't do it- That's BS. Maybe you don't trust the product anymore and want to go buy a different product the store doesn't carry, with those store's policy you need to take a 15% hit to do that. Because of that I won't shop at any of those places unless absolutely necessary.
