New Catalyst Drivers, sneak preview

We all know ATI are releasing their new drivers tomorrow, and I thought you might like to see one of the more interesting new features, will this be in the drivers tomorrow though or a future release? oh the tension

That feature will only work with XT cards though...correct?

I bid for one on eBay yesterday. Lost out by $7 at the last minute. ($380.00 final price/Retail)

I do not think anyone "Here" would ever suspect you of leaking anything. I still think you are mean though

I was very suspicious that these new drivers would just be a WHQL certified version of the 3.10 CoD drivers. It was taking too long to release them. I figured, and apparently rightly so, that these Official 3.10's (or what ever they will be called) would have a few new features. Thanks for the preview. Now I really can't wait!!!!!!!

Anandtech has a preview of the MMC 8.8 with "EasyShare" (sharing TV over a network).
MMC 8.8 seems to be the major reason for releasing Catalyst 3.10.
Hopefully, both MMC 8.8 & Catalyst 3.10 will be released simultaneously, and will include supporting the TV Wonder card.

Thumbs Up!

It would also be very nice if it was made possible for third party software to access that temperature probe, so that the numerous programs with such features can include it amongst other readings. Quite a few homebuilders would find it a nice little bonus that adds value to the product. Perhaps this is already in the works, but just in case.

Just to correct you CATALYST is a software suite and includes driver and MMC. So as mentioned before CATALYST 3.10 will include MMC version 8.8 and graphic driver version 7.96

So wait a minute, does that mean that the XT GPUs have a certain amount of overcapacity built into them?

I have always wondered this about GPUs in general. I mean I can happlily run the GPU on my radeon 9800NP card@ 412MHZ (This requires a Duron type HSF mounted on the GPU though). I can't do anything near as close with the memory on this card.

So is there a safe margin for this overcapacity or not - and if so, why don't manufacturers themselves take advantage of it?

I have often wished manufactures would let us swap out GPUs and memory chips, just like we can with CPUs and motherboard memory modules... Then at least we could choose what memory and GPU we wanted for ourselves.

I'd like to ask a question about the screenshot:

Isn't 69 C a little bit 'warm' for the card? (If that's an actual screenshot, what would be the temp limit of the card?)
