Maxtor MaxBoost Beta
MaxBoost is performance-boosting driver software which operates under Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP and which is designed to complement your Maxtor ATA or SATA hard drive. This driver intelligently caches data in the host system RAM before it is written to and read from the Maxtor disk drive, enhancing the effective storage speed of your system under a variety of system conditions and applications.

Doesn't work with RAID 0 according to the Maxtor website... maybe they'll have a newer version that will.

Confirmed no recognition of Maxtor HDD's on nForce2 chipset boards that use nVidia's SW IDE driver. A simple test of No MaxBoost&Nvidia SW IDE vs. Maxboost&Microsoft IDE = NO Differece. You get the same read/write performance with SW IDE or Maxboost, so if you don't have stability problems with nVidia's IDE drivers don't bother with Maxboost. I wonder if that is what nVidia's "proprietary" IDE drivers do to get a performance boost---sneaky-sneaky!!!
W P.S. on my VIA KT266A chipset system, I do get some stability improvement when capturing video using my ATI AIW 9000---no frames dropped at any capture rate--even while multitasking!!!! |
