ForceWare 53.03 Driver Report
The boys over at FiringSquad tested Nvidias Forceware 53.03 Drivers till there was nothing left to test..
NVIDIA’s Release Highlights for ForceWare 53.03 mention “Increased graphics performance when using nForce3 systems.” But we actually found some performance improvements on our 875P test bed. Of course, the other major addition was official support for the GeForce FX 5900 XT, which we reviewed earlier this month in the form of eVGA’s e-GeForce FX 5900 SE. Drivers have been thoroughly dissected in newsgroups and message boards throughout the net, but we still wanted to take a look at them! They have offered operating system specific tips in there conclusion. Even tips for you old school DirectX 7 users that are still kickin it out there. You people in particular should listen to there advise. Read the full review |

Not sure I like the advice for DX7 owners there
With a Geforce 2MX under Win98SE - the 53.04 seems to be one of the most stable and capable drivers I've had for a LONG time. 52.16 was the first to enable NvRotate with this card and OS - 53.04 preserves that. The negative, is that some tweaks no longer work.... Now I have an IronGate (AMD 750) chipset, so it defaults to 1x AGP (though I do have a "good" AND751 revision). Now the EnableIrongate2x registry option stopped working many drivers ago, so at one time (it being the CREATIVE version), I used the AGP Wizard to force 2x. Then I discovered the OTHER Registry tweak - "ReqAGPRate=2" - much cleaner, but that no longer works - as of 50+, so it's back to the rather dirtier approach with AGP Wiz. There are other Reg options, new ... RMUserReqAGPRate and others, but none of the tech sites have run them down yet. |
