Default Post AMD slams P4-Celeron

According to AMD documents uncovered by http://www.theinquirer.org/?article=4513 The Inquirer, AMD doesn't have a whole lot of love for Intel's new budget processor.

Echoing a PC World article calling the P4-based Celeron "[a processor that is] all bark and no bite," AMD attacks Intel by first accusing them of "clouding the PC marektplace and confusing uneducated consumers" and then by calling the stability of the Willamette-based processor into question. AMD claims that the Celeron is incapable of playing games such as Tiger Woods 2002, Spiderman, and Nascar 2002 without crashing.

The document also contains a benchmark comparison showing the 1.7GHz Celeron being outperformed by a Duron 1.3GHz and an Athlon XP 1600+.

It will be interesting to see how Intel responds to this fierce attack.

This is the correct link: http://www.theinquirer.org/?article=4513

Its about time AMD attacked Intel for the kind of crap they're trying to pull.
here is another related link:
http://www.theinquirer.org/?article=4535

Its not surprising that intel refused to comment .... They couldn't say anything other than "p4 is the best selling processor and celeron is the second best"... I guess they just wanted to show us how much of the public is computer illiterate

Default Post AMD

I think AMD need to get out into the open. Everybody knows Intel and the Intel Inside adverts, but I can honestly say I've never seen an AMD advert other than on their site, A lot of people who don't know about computers go with the big brands HP, Tiny, Dell etc. most of these use Intel processors for the majority if not all their systems, I hope AMD can get out into the world, and wipe the smile off Intel's face.

Default Post Celeron sucks, Duron doesn't........

Yeah, I think they should make an ad that states bluntly that you can get a equal/better processor for cheaper than what Intel sells. It's the truth, and I think they should go for it. Their stock has fell dramatically lately though...hopefully it recooperates.

Default Post Intel is still on top

Regaurdless of how great you all say amd is, Intel still has the fastest x86 processor in production. Intel processor run, cooler, and generally overclock higher than amd based ones. intel seems to still leave overhead on their core designs while amd pushes the limit of their cores, the tualatin core is capable of 1.6ghz but only 1.4ghz's were made. and the p4's (northwood) are capable of well over 3ghz.

Woe be the fool that takes speed over efficiency... The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong.

Intel will continue to have the "fastest" processors for quite a while. But, in the grand scheme of things, numbers don't mean much; the benchmarks are widespread and clear. AMD CPUs can outperform, clock for clock, any Intel processor of same or slightly faster speeds. Early benchmarks of AMD's Hammer series show an 800mhz Hammer outperforming 2gHz chips of both companies - again, speed is not a factor.

Intel has done a wonderful job of using Nazi-style propoganda (simple, repetitive slogans; over-simplistic adverts; fabricated and publicized misinformation) in the processor wars; this, in addition to their nefarious self-promoting tactics (their attempt to squelch FireWire because it doesn't use CPU cycles, for example) is why I will never willfully buy an Intel-based system. As far as I'm concerned, Intel is just another failure.

Default Post Sell Sell Sell

As far as i can see AMD have done a pretty good job to get the Athlon this far.
But progress for AMD had been slow, only the loyal tempt fate by buying AMD now.
The Pentium 4 is the best processor today and there's no denying it! If the Hammer is half as good as they say it's going to be we'll see the AMD vs Intel debate heat up just like it did when the Athlon first took on the Pentium 3.

To sum it up.......
AMD needs to sell the Hammer like crazy if they are to make any progress againts Intel!
It's no good having a awsome processor if no one know about it, right!

As far as AMD slamming the P4 Willamette Celeron.....well.......I don't think the Willamette Celeron should of been made. Waste of time and money! A Northwood Celeron would of been a wiser choice!
