Driverheaven Photoshop Challenge
Well its a weekend and news is a little slower than normal, so I thought we might have a little fun with some benching this weekend, no not the usual 3dmark2001 or 2003 tests, but something which will appeal to all you "real worlders" out there who value overall real world system test performance much higher.
Of course if you dont happen to have Photoshop7 then this is going to be pretty much wasted, but after looking in our heavenly visions forum quite a few of you have it (and all fully legal im sure **coughs**). For those of you who have no idea what im talking about, let me introduce you to a Photoshop script I created for use with our benchmarking of processors, first seen in our AMD 3200 64bit CPU test here, as you will see we compared stock 3200 performance with an overclocked barton @ 2300mhz. Faster times are of course better. Im going to offer to our members the benchmarking script I set up for our CPU tests so you can all compare your real world performance. Here is how you use it. Load Photoshop 7, go into your action pallete , on the right of the pallette is an arrow, click it - then LOAD action. find the file on your hard drive then go into "button mode" in the same action menu. If you dont see an "actions" go to WINDOW on menu bar and check it on there. open an image, JPG RGB format is fine (be careful with indexed coloured GIFS), then resize the image via IMAGE - image size click off the "constrain proportion", then make the image 4510 pixels wide by 3100 deep - this gives you a 40 meg file. click OK and wait a little for it to resize. by now you should be in button mode on the actions pallette so what we need is to activate Photoshops built in timing mechanism. so at the bottom left within the application, click the arrow and set it to "TIMING" Now click the BENCHMARKING bar in the actions pallette and let it run. this will give you a time once it finishes. As you can see from the 3200 64 bit review, the stock opteron scored 75.9 seconds and the overclocked barton beat it at 73.5 seconds, since then ive overclocked my barton to 2450mhz, and put in some OCZ 4200 @ 220fsb 2x256 tight timings with the new abit AN7 and bested it to 62.6 seconds. Memory settings in photoshop should ideally be 50% or so and 512 meg of ram or more is really needed to run this effectively. Dont be running other apps in the background, let photoshop hog all the CPU time. Oh yes the script, you can get it here its only 1k compressed ! so no massive 200 meg downloads for you 56kers ! have fun. |

AND, in case you can't remember all that Zardon wrote, do this:
Highlight his message. Right click and select Print. On the next screen choose SELECTION. You will now get a nice neat printout of his instructions. ![]() EDIT: 124.5s on my system.

Sorry for the stupid question, but is there a way I can do this with Photoshop Elements 2.0 I can't find anything about loading an action and can't afford the full version.
Thanks

Is there that much of a performance increase between the 2 versions?? Can anyone verify this.....if you happen to have both.
Thanks.......and awesome scores everyone. Having computer problems this weekend.....not able to run the bench.

im sure there is a setting to let CS handle the timing for the whole script and not just the individual sections of the script. I really havent had time to get updated on that specific version and some of the changes.
