ATi announces Radeon 9800 PRO Mac Special Edition
ATi has introduced a special Radeon 9800 PRO designed for Power Mac G5 computers at the MacWorld San Francisco 2004. The Radeon 9800 PRO Mac Special Edition has 256MB DDR memory running at 680MHz, and a core running at 380MHz (same numbers as ATi his normal Radeon 9800 Pro). The graphics card includes Macintosh OS X drivers, and enables a direct connection to Apple branded displays trough dual output ADC and DVI connectors.
“Now Macintosh game enthusiasts and digital content professionals who’ve been clamoring for a RADEON 9800 based upgrade card that offers direct ADC support and 256 MB of memory will be satisfied,” said Stan Ossias, Product Marketing Manager, Apple Products, ATI Technologies. “ATI’s new 256MB RADEON 9800 PRO Mac Special Edition delivers the stunningly fast, high end graphics that fully maximize the powerful capabilities of the Power Mac G5.” ATI is previewing this new technology at Booth 1017 at MacWorld San Francisco from January 6-9, 2004. The RADEON 9800 PRO Mac Special Edition will be available from ATI and its retail partners beginning at the end of January for a MSRP of $469. Source: dvhardware |

Big Mac
haven't been following the Mac scene lately, but are there any worthwhile games for it, to justify a 9800p purchase for it? |

I heard Max Payne 2
Isn't Max Payne 2 out for it? Macs get games... Nobody makes a big deal about it except Mac Gamers.

The 9800 won't help out the photo or video editors at our university much over what they have now because most of the end production stuff they is 2d related (Photos and Video).
Any increases in performance will come strictly from the core clock/memory speed increase and the cpu bump-up. This upgrade is definitely targeted at the gamers in the Mac world, and I don't know any personally. Zardon?
