Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown (PS2 XBOX) review
It's hard to clearly define the type of game that Defender of the Crown represents, since it draws its inspiration from various categories that have traditionally been separate (the basic game is one of strategy, punctuated with action sequences but it becomes a role-playing game for management of the characters' abilities). Although the aim of diversifying the game sequences is praiseworthy, most of the action scenes remain very basic and eventually lose their appeal. They were an attempt at diversity that revolutionized the strategy game in 1986 but they now look a little passé and somehow unfinished. The strategy aspect is user-friendly and will not hold out for long against experts in this type of game who will not find it challenging enough since the strategic dynamic is simplified from the outset.

This game is basically an update...or...not counting the DOTC Remaster...a version 2 to the old Commodore 64/Amiga game called Defender of the Crown. There's a PC version of it too. It's mostly just a nostalgic romp for lover's of the original. I have it. Somehow, it's not quite as riveting as the old original DOTC was back in the day.....just......not enough to it, I guess.
