CD row solution forces prices up
An online music seller has been forced to raise its prices after settling out of court with the music industry in a row over imported CDs.
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and CD-Wow! were due to have gone to court in two weeks' time. "I am delighted that we have been able to resolve this case on agreed terms," BPI chairman Peter Jamieson said. CD-Wow! was accused of importing CDs to the UK from outside Europe and will now have to raise CD prices by £2. Source: BBC News |

So instead of being HAPPY that people were able to buy music at sensible prices instead of pirating, they attack this pillar of commonsense and raise prices !
If the record industry wants to destroy itself, FINE - download, don't buy, or just don't buy, the chart records (probably hyped there anyway) get enough radio play that you could listen to them ad nauseum anyway, and for many, ad nauseum is one or two playings at MOST. If if it's the EU dictating it, then lets get the hell out of this beurocrats gravy trian before it does any more damage - the Euro is a FLOP, even countries within the EuroZone are beginning to admit that, so lets smash it up and start again, as a group of countries pledged not to attack each other militarily or in unfair trade. |

I first heard about this on radio news a couple of weeks ago. On there, the BPI were bleating on about the artists not getting payed because the cd's are being bought from outside the EU. What a load of crap. The whole point is about the fact that the BPI don't like CD-WOW operating in the way it does and have been trying to shut them down since day one. The sad fact is that CD-WOW have given in because they don't want to be sued.
It won't be long before the DVD side of the site is forced to follow suite. |

""I am delighted that we have been able to resolve this case on agreed terms," BPI chairman Peter Jamieson said." BAH! That's a big bunch of tree hugging hippie crap. Should have read: "We screwed em all, so I'm happy". And they wonder why piracy is so strong.

It totally stinks. I buy music (or should now read bought) a lot of music from CD-WOW because they were cheaper than anywhere else - even the supermarkets (and the BPI doesnt like them selling cut price CDs either). I'm going to have to cut back now on the amount of music I buy.
The whole point of the Internet shopping revolution was that you could get your goods a bit cheaper and this seems to be on its way out with music sales at least. |
