Initially unveiled in the summer of 1999 as a project for the PC and Mac, Bungie Studios' Halo: Combat Evolved eventually came to fruition in November of 2001 when it made its debut on a third platform, Microsoft's Xbox console, to near universal acclaim. Of greater interest to home computer owners was the later announcement that noted development studio Gearbox Software had been contracted to work on the PC incarnation of the game. The title finally arrived on one of its originally intended target systems in the fall of last year, after almost half a decade of anticipation.
