Default Post Get it at alt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc.ms.beta

Get the files (total of 9). Don't get the other that has Pars with it...it's corrupted. Just get the 9 straight rars.

I installed without a hitch right over 1079 without reinstalling. The only thing you have to change, and only if you wan to run themes is uxtheme.dll in the system32 folder.

Default Post Like Dungeon Siege? Do not update to 1081!!

I dunno, maybe it's just my luck but anyway. After updating from clean install of XP Pro to XP 1081 Service Pack, Dungeon Siege has problems. Major graphical problems.

After updating to SP 1081 and rebooting, I then start Dungeon Siege. I normally run it @ 1280x1024 2xAA, 2-aniso. Well, after launching the game I get a black screen, yet I hear the logo music in the background running. So I press the WindowsKey to jump to desktop, then I can go into the game and the menu is showing. After starting a new game I get a graphical glitch in the game.

This is the glitch:

BUT, if I uncheck 2xAA in the nvidia properties box, then it goes away.

What gives? Using 30.30 drivers from warp2search.net

Default Post Kernel.. not MS?

Hey!

I also got the "no ms kernel" error.

Can it be because I have a Raid, and the Kernel is not on the "boot drive"?

beats me!

any1?

Try reinstalling your video drivers AFTER you install the SP - the SP overwrote vid drivers and audio drivers on my bench box. Dunno what else, as that box is now fried (unrelated to SP1), and don't feel like sacrificing another goatputer at the altar of Gates this week.

It depends on whether your boot drive is also part of the raid or not. Largely it's dependent on which drive is set as ACTIVE - that's where the boot files and boot sector will be stored.

You can use your CD to boot into the recovery console and restore the boot files, and this should get you back on your feet. If not you can do an in-place upgrade installation, which will install XP over XP and let you try installing the SP again.

If the error can be eliminated by replacing update.exe with the version from build 1050, can someone send that to me? Or point me to where I can find it? I never did have that build.

Thanks,

Captain Marvel

All you need to do is to overwrite the v1081 installer program (UPDATE.EXE) in the UPDATE folder with the one from the v1050 pack. The v1081 pack should now install without any errors.
This has worked for some and not others, actually. The MOST advisable method, honestly, is to back up your critical information, reformat, and completely reinstall XP. then apply the SP update to it as soon as you're done installing. This will result in a clean upgrade to the current SP1 - back up your files so you can uninstall the SP beta before the release SP1 comes out. You'd be well advised to store drivers for hardware like video and audio cards somewhere to make this easier. You can even extract them from their archives and burn them on a CDR or CDRW for installing if you don't have a second hard drive to temporarily store stuff.

Yes, I realize this is a major undertaking, but realistically, there's SOMETHING wrong with your system if it won't install the SP cleanly. And those who have gone the reformat/reinstall route have reported large system performance gains, and no further problems installing subsequent service packs. The benefits far outweigh the difficulties.

Just remember to write down the serial numbers for any web-delivered software, store e-mail, etc before you do it - it's pretty much final once you do!

Best of luck.

Try reinstalling SP1, then install vid and audio drivers afterwards and see what you get.

The two problems combined forced me to wipe clean, and it worked...1081 went right on.

Freakin' long-ass install, though...almost 10 minutes...was closer to 6 before with my getup (Palamino 1700+, KT7A-RAID, 512MB Crucial CAS2 PC133, Maxtor DiamondMAX Plus 40GB, R200 64MB, other assorted stuff)
Woah, that's creepy, I had 1073 prior to this, and had to format ( My 128 SDRAM DIMM I added to my 2 - 256s was making the comp reboot at odd times ) and now on my original clean install I can't use windows update at all, as well, I can't get rid of this "ActiveX" error, despite resetting all my IE zones to low. That's one of my reasons for wanting to install SP1, hopefully it'd fix that error......

Default Post dll unload???

does anyone have an opinion ao advice on using one of those programs to "unload dll's" i believe this is why i cannot find my dllcache to fix my uxtheme file for 1081. also when i am in safe mode and i try to overwrite uxtheme into sys32 file it tells me it cannot do it because a program is using this file. i thought this was the reason you boot to safe mode so that it can overwrite w/out problems. where have i gone wrong? what can i do to overwrite this file? res hacker?

I had similar problem but I was every time able to change name of %SystemRoot%\System32\uxtheme.dll to another one and then copy patched one there. Don't know why it's impossible to delete that file when rename is possible :-). Maybye the system access this file by its' filesystem index nr. (using NTFS) so the filename dosen't matter after a partition is mounted.

So boot into safe-mode, rename existing uxtheme.dll to ex.: uxtheme.old, copy a patched one there, copy it into %SystemRoot%ServicePackFiles\i386\ too, reboot and then you should be able to delete the original, now renamed, uxtheme.

You probably won't need it - I didn't.
In safe-mode: rename the original, copy there patched, reboot to normal mode, delete renamed original. It should work on Your XP too, I hope.

You might wanna try booting into safe mode with command prompt only.

I had it in c:\ too ..left there it before reboot to safe-mode, then renamed..copied....etc..and success.

When You get .cannot find specified file... try "dir uxthem*". What You will get? Did It list any file?

my way is something like this:
-have patched uxtheme.dll in C:\
-boot to safe-mode with command prompt
-cd WINDOWS\system32
-ren uxtheme.dll uxtheme.old
-copy C:\uxtheme.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32
-cd ..
-cd ServicePackFiles
-del uxtheme.dll
-copy C:\uxtheme.dll C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles
-reboot to normal mode
-then you can delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\uxtheme.old

I never had uxtheme.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache . If You have it there, repeat the steps for C:\WINDOWS\system32 .

I found this a week ago for an older SP but still works, just extract the files to the C: drive or what ever your root drive is, boot into safe mode and run the .bat file. Thats it!!!

you may have to cut and paste it into your browser, sometimes it wont find the file (no idea why)

The uxtheme.dll resides in your sytem32 directory and controls the appearrance of XP. The uxtheme.dll mentioned in these posts is a modified version which, when substituted for the original, allows the user to apply themes that origanally required programs like StyleXP. You can now apply any such theme without the use of any other program.

Default Post 1081 Install Terminates with SP 1 Error

I finally got SP1.1081 but when I try to install it it keeps terminating. It just says SP1 Error and then quits. The file is around 127 MB, and it extracts to an empty HDD so room is not a problem. I have tried installing it while in Safe Mode, but get the same error. Any Ideas?
