Whether you love em or hate em, Macs are beautiful machines, I am still waiting for a Mac that will impress me as much as any AMD machine, but give the devil his due, Macs are still popular with hard core types.

Third. Ultrasparcs were there before Opterons which were there before the G5. All could be used for workstations/desktops.

Touche, the ultrasparc processor, I havent seen a Sun Machine in so long, I also remember the Alpha chip, but history has swallowed them all.

The Sparcs and Opterons are not targeted at Desktop computer, more Server and Workstations

The G5 did come before the Althon64 and FX. so yes it is the first.
It may actually have been out before the Opteron or very close in deployment I cannot remember though.
