Donator
Well I voted for Samsung, as best Hdd maker, but they are horrible slow..
my favorite is the WD-SE series, being the fastes drive atm
Seagate is for me a very close 2nd.

I think ATM Western Digital is the best. Great performance and some of the quietest most reliable drives out to me.

What does no one like the IBM DeathStar's?
LMAO!

I think that Hitachi 7K250 series is the best buy at the moment.

I'd have to go for WD even though I'm running 2 Maxtor 120 SATAs at the mo. None of the WDs I've had ever had any problems.
We swap out a lot of failed hard drives at work and the WDs seem to fail the least. Fujitsu's seem to be the ones that fail most often.

The very first PC I owned had a Connor DiskStor HD. It was a whopping 170 MB! (Not a typo, that's right. )

Connor was bought out by Seagate back in the early 90's. Since then, I've purchased almost exclusively from Maxtor. I've had what I'd call some very good luck and performance. BUT, I've had to RMA 2 HDs to them over the years since the mid-90's. My 98SE machine currently has 4 Maxtor drives in it.

A year and a half ago I bought a system that came with a Samsung HD. Until then I was unfamiliar with the fact that Samsung even made HDs. It's a 40 GB and supposedly a High Performance drive. But, I felt it was/is a very slow drive compared to what I'd come to experience from Maxtor.

Then, last summer I bought an 80 GB Seagate drive. I've been very, very pleased with this drive and the way it performs.

So, based on the fact that a couple of Maxtors have had to be sent back for replacement, and since my Samsung isn't performing to my expectations, I've voted for Seagate.

I've had to also consider that in the last two weeks both my son and my daughter-in-law have lost Maxtor drives in their systems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those in my 98SE machine.

I hate Maxtor. 2 out of 3 drives I've purchased from them in the past few years have died within a few months, and one of them (a 120gb 7200rpm) makes a lot of beeping and whirring noises at random for no reason (but no failures are bad sectors). Been having some problems with WD as of late... a new development. Never had any problems with IBM drives though... got one over 4 years old, still runs smooth.

Seagate for my own system. They are certainly fast enough at the same time as my ears forbid me to go with Western Digital. Noise levels, specifically the high pitched motor noise, will remain my primary concern when buying a harddrive.

Actually, the massive failures were with the old 75gxp line, and to a lesser extent the 60gxp line.
I've seen no horror stories of the 120gxp, which is what I have.
Heck, this drive even beats my WD 800BB drive, by a small margin. And the warranty is longer.
Anyway I abstained from the poll, since I haven't looked at the newest hard drives in over a year and a half.

I would say Western Digital, never had ANY Problems with them, My maxtor one got a bit too loud, kinda bad, and my seagate, for some reason, it slowed down though it's a ata133 on my ata133, so i gave that away, the IBM is fine, but not as I wanted, so I'mma get another WD to replace my IBM soon
