'Valve Speaks' Part One
Some great information about the upcoming Half-life2 is answered here. You will like the questions and answer about a 64-bit optimized version. Here is a part of the interview:
"Frame-by-frame analysis of the e3 videos showed objects were reacting to impacts prior to the actual, visual impacts. For instance: there's a splash before a box hits the water, boards break before the crowbar reaches them, etc. Gabe Newell: The physics behaviours you point out are an interpolation artefact during demo playback, not of the physics system. They aren't there when you play. It didn't really occur to us that people would be doing a frame-by-frame analysis of shaky cam video of demo playback. Demo playback is NOT even vaguely pixel or frame accurate to actual game play - if you want that you need to make a movie instead and be really careful about how you manage time in your production pipeline (and you will have to ignore pixel and motion artefacts introduced by your compressor). The current demo playback behaviour is good enough for our uses." Source: halflife2.net |

"Does Half-Life 2 have a Soldier of Fortune 2 style damage system?"
"Gabe Newell: No." That kinda sucks- seeing people's heads fly off an blood spurt out in multiplayer SOF2 is quite funny.. and realistic.

"Will the game be simultaneously released on Steam and in retail stores?
Gabe Newell: Half-Life 2 will be released worldwide on Steam simultaneous with the US retail release." Ah, wonderfull. Us second rate Europeans have to wait until the Americans have already played it for a week or two or even a month. There is no way I'll be paying for a game to be sent to me via Steam. I like to have a disc physically in my hand when I walk out of the store. Surely this sort of thing encourages/tempts piracy. Why do we have to wait all the time for games that are already out in the states? |

Water still doesnt move realisticly....I was REALLY looking forward to releastic water.
They didnt awnser the question about the "unscripted" sequence that still happens even if you kill the guys in the level that are supposed to kick the door in. (Maybe someone can find that article for me?) SOFII damage was fun...you could kill a guy and then have a little victory party with the knife Seriously, it should have releastic hit zones with body parts that can get blown off if you get hit there.
