More ATI R420 details emerge

ATI is preparing a R420 AGP swizzle stick for Q2 this year. Cards will use GDDR 2 memory 256MB at 256 bits. Apparently it is possible to use 128 implementations as well. This chip will be able to support DDR, DDR2 and GDDR3 so whenever it's ready ATI can make it work with its current memory controller.

WaltC is on a distinguished road

To see M$'s official position on upcoming changes to DX9, here's the link:

http://discuss.microsoft.com/SCRIPTS...1&F=&S=&P=5060

As stated earlier, there will be no "9.1" or "9.2" revision to DX9. If there is even a revision at all it will be no more than "9.0c", which according to M$ is less than even a minor change to the current version of the API.

As usual, Inquirer overstates the "shader 3.0" thing, as Microsoft says it is already in there simply to prepare hardware makers and to cut down churn in the API. According to M$, no one's made any shader-3.0 hardware yet for them to use to test their ps3.0 code with, and there's not even the possibility of a "c" revision until such time as that happens, and even then it isn't assured that there will be a "c" revision at all.

Kind of nice to get it from the horse's mouth, so to speak, for a change...
