Preview: ATI HDTV Wonder!

"For years, ATI's All-in-Wonder line of integrated 2D/3D/TV/video "Ginsu" products has been the one to beat in the PC arena. Companies like Hauppauge have well-regarded TV tuner/video capture cards while others, like nVidia, have very solid 2D/3D performance. As yet, though, none have brought it all together as well as ATI. Now the company is raising the ante with the arrival of its HDTV Wonder product, due to ship late March or early April.

We got a chance to spend a little quality time with ATI's latest Wonder, and we came away very encouraged. Here's a quick rundown on what you can look forward to."

FDM80 is on a distinguished road

Good news to see a competitor in the HDTV tuner market that has the potential to drive the price down of the other cards (hopefully, depending on if ATI's product is purely software driven or if the hardware assists in decoding).

One thing that gets to me is the guy is supposed to know his stuff and says that he watched both CSI and Survivor in HD. I've been watching HDTV for 2 years and there hasn't been a single episode of Survivor in HD (nor does CBS list survivor as one of their HD shows). HDTV does blow away an analog broadcast of the same show. HDTV is wonderful. Just don't tell me survivor looked great in HD since it doesn't technically exist.

Yeah it is sad that any reality show isn't in HD these days.. Heck you could go buy JVC HD camcorder for $2000 and go shoot anything you want. But I know what you mean about people THINKING they are watching HD when they are really not. Now I just have to wait for that Direct TV HD tuner with TIVO in it. Sure is going to suck paying $1,000 for that..
