Windows Security Update CD released.
A good initiative from Microsoft, this CD contains Windows updates for XP, 2K, ME and 98/SE to help you protect your PC (and save downloading them all when you re-install). I've tested this product over the past few months and it is excellent, AND FREE!

OMG Microsoft stocks will plummet now that they have used the word free in public. Sell! Sell!
No seriously, nice move. I think that could also be demanded considering the security problems and the price tag on the products, but it's not something I had expected to be honest. |

Why isn't there a downloadable, burnable version? If it's fee I don't see why we should have to get it on CD- Braodband users could just download and burn to disk in less than a half hour.
I think they just want my address! Not really, but still.

Worked for me. You do get the option to opt out of any communication from them or their partners (phone, mail and e-mail) so i dont see what your problem is.

There's ALWAYS been the option to download the updates and store them in any manner you wish.
Just go here and enter the OS you're using in the Product/Technology box. You can also choose your preferred language on this page. Then the next page will be a first page of many downloadable files you can store in a directory of your choosing. Once done, simply burn the contents to a CD/DVD. EDIT: Here's another helpful site re: this: Annoyances.org

Thank you for the reference. Free really means free (like an Office XP SP2 CD I got a while back). Ordered and processed in a flash too!

Hmm, I just tried again and it worked just fine- It must have been a site problem or something...
I still don't know why they need my phone number....

Must have pressed the CD's pretty early on - you'd have thought they would have planned on doing them at/after the original Win98 support end date, so that for keeping remaining Win98 users at the highest update level possible for their safety and others, it would have had everything available.
