Report: Microsoft to Cut Xbox Price Soon

"The New York Post is reporting that a price cut for the Xbox may be imminent.

Citing retail sources, the newspaper says that Microsoft is readying plans to cut its console price from $179 to $149, to help reach the company goal of selling 16 million units by the end of June.

Schelley Olhava, an analyst with IDC, says Microsoft may intend to announce the price cut at the Game Developers Conference late next month.

While many industry analysts consider a console price cut in 2004 to be a foregone conclusion, it was the general consensus recently that the cut would likely come later in the year and perhaps result in a price as low as $129.

Naturally, there’s little chance Sony would let a Xbox price cut go unanswered, so stay tuned."
