Hitachi Deskstar Drive "meows" During Drive Check .

"WEB SITE Envy News has picked up on a meowing sound that is a characteristic feature of the Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 hard drive. According to Hitachi, the meowing sound is the result of a relatively new feature which verifies the performance and reliability of the drive. But up to this time, the drive manufacturer has not been able to suppress the noise."

I have two of these drives and have never noticed the sound, but still, it's funny. Maybe Hitachis are not powered by motors, but instead really small kittens.

Does that mean that Hitachi's drive check is actually a CAT scan???

Yeah I also have two of 160 GiB models and also hear this sound from time to time. It appears it only happans when the drive is idle for some time. I don't worry at all about it as the drives are very quiet and very fast anyways.
