Tony Blair’s broadband Britain stopped in tracks, says Intel
THE UK PM’S VISION of broadband Britain has stopped in its tracks, Sean Maloney, senior VP in charge of communications said today here in Cannes.
But WiMax is the answer and will save his bacon, beaming high power wi-fi signals into large European cities and giving homes 10Mbits. He said that wi-fi will be bigger than UMTS, CDMA or other standards, so Mr Blair had better install an access point in every lamp post and get wised up too WiMax. No doubt he will be briefed. Government needs to clear the decks of existing clutter and help adopt the new standards. Regulators are left with a legacy problem that they have to deal with. WiMax looks real, Maloney said. The whole of the 802.16 community agreed everything six or nine months and people increasingly believe it's going to happen. Inquirer |

Man, I wish this technology was being pushed this hard in the U.S. Where I live, still no Cable TV. Over 50k feet from nearest C.O. No broadband except Satellite.
