Mozilla 1.6 beats Internet Explorer in every way, so says Mike
"The latest update of Mozilla is fast and has far better features than Internet Explorer, and far less drawbacks too.
I've noticed that IE gets tired and emotional when it's subjected to grievous bodily browsing and the numerous critical updates that you've got to slap on the patient when it's feeling sick. But the feature that really does it for me is the tab feature. This lets you open numerous web sites at the same time and lets you flip between them – in IE, of course, you have to open a fresh window and after a while, all that air you're letting in can confuse you every which way." Yeah but Opera is not free unless you want a nice ad banner.

And Firefox is better than all three of them. It really all breaks down to opinion and I am going to have mine.

Well I just installed Mozilla- the first thing I try to do is organize my favorites or "bookmarks"- I try to change the icon for the favorites like I do in IE- guess what? NO luck- it doesn't seem to be possible - pretty lame if you ask me. Not even after I go to the bookmark manager does there seem to be a way to do it-
Theres' one strike- 2 more and Mozilla gets the boot. I would think an add-on browser would have more options than default MS stuff, not less..

OMG-- I cannot even use my freaking middle mouse button???? WTF is that? I either have to scroll with the side scroll bar (idiotic) or with my wheel- When I press my middle mouse button it does NOTHING- Well in the first 15 minutes I found quite a few things that are messed up in the so called "better browser" mozilla...
While I was trying to organize my IE imported favorites, all of the sudden 35 tabbed windows tried to open and hung the program. I finally got it closed down but a Mozilla box on the desktop wouldn't go away- it was a question asking if I wanted to close ALL tabbed connections.. I hit everything and it wouldn't go away- finally I went into the task manager and had to go into the running processes to kill it-- WTF-- IMHO Mozilla sucks. If I have to do google searches to get the middle mouse button working there is a major problem with the program.. My middle mouse button works EVERYwhere else. LAME

Found a fix: http://autoscroll.mozdev.org/ Link is whacked for install...try this one: http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/autoscroll 2. A better way to organize your favorites is to simply delete everything out of the bookmarks foldere...EVERYTHING! Now go export your favorite from IE. Now just import that HTML file over to Mozilla. It works a lot better!! Last edited by Necrosis; Feb 29, 2004 at 10:09 PM. |

well firefox is only a browser
mozilla is the browser and it includes a mail client, and news reader.... I have been using firebird since like .5 and now I am with firefox. It is my default browser. The only thing that I use IE for is to use the windows update site. I do not agree that opera is better. The last time I used opera I noticed one thing about it that I could not accept. After about an hour of constant browsing the memory footprint with opera was like 150MB! Firefox on the other hand is using a mere 28MB My vote goes with Firefox. If you dont have a mail client then use mozilla to get those extra features or download the standalone mail client called thunderbird. One last note. Firefox does not automatically download and install spyware like IE. (yes I know you can configure IE to not do this) I generally feel safer browsing because of this not being an issue. And for comparison sake. I scanned my wifes computer (she uses IE only) and my computer using firefox only with adaware. She had over 40 things on her pc relating to spyware and data mining cookies, etc... I had 2 data mining cookies.. |

I would have too agree with Mike. Mozilla and Firefox are currently the best browsers and I have them set as default on my systems and on systems I buildfor others.

After messing around with Mozilla for a while I can say that IE is much more customizable- Mozilla is good if you like AOL or preconfigured buttons that you cannot change..
Why are all the navigation. buttons stuck where they are and cannot be moved? Why is there no middle mouse button support by default? Then when you install the patch to get it working it's scrolling is very slow and choppy. The icons in the favorites cannot be changed, right clicking on most part of the browser does nothing, meaning extra steps are needed and you have to go into separate menus to configure things.. That's only the faults I've found in less than a day of trying to use Mozilla.. IE is superior in many ways.. Oh, and what the heck is up w/ a splash screen every time you use it? That alone makes IE better- The pop-up blocker lets allot of pop ups through that the google toolbar catches also, and the list goes on. Another annoyance, why can't I IMPORT cookies w/ Mozilla? I can w/ IE very easily, with Mozilla I went through every single setting I could find and there were NO option to import cookies. These problems are only the beginning of why I think Mozilla is inferior. I'm going to still try to use it, but if I can't get a patch somewhere to fix these problems, it's not worth the time to use Mozilla, and do all this work just to try to get it to do what IE already does by default. Open up IE6 and right click just about anywhere on the main menu and buttons and you get nice little menus where you can make convenient changes and or change settings- in Mozilla most places the browser is set up to be used with a mouse without a middle button or without a right mouse button- just about the only buttons that are useful are the left mouse button and the scroll wheel. I think in this case MS wins with IE. I wasn't looking for faults with Mozilla either- but they are kind of hard to miss.

I can see why people say it's all about personal preference, I'm sure there are some things about Mozilla that are better than IE- It all depends on which features you want I guess.
